Humanity Coming Out of the Dark
The human journey to here and now has been long and arduous. We've led a bloody, violent, selfish existence of me and mine against you and yours. By any definition, we've been living in a profound darkness for a hundred generations.
We are a species on the brink of being forced to accept that we are neither the center of the universe nor its most advanced inhabitants. We are slowly realizing that a world dominated by money and monied interests does not serve the greater whole. Our ingenuity has helped create intelligences which may soon transcend us.
Despite all of it, I believe with all I am that we are approaching a moment of decision where we can choose slip back into that inky abyss or reach for the top of the mountain and stand in the daylight of a future created from love rather than fear.
We have it in is. You know it and I know it. To know, goes the proverb, and not to do is not to know. We do know and now is the time to do. The future is here and it belong to us.
I've always loved the Gloria Estefan song Coming Out of the Dark. She wrote it and recorded it as part of a comeback after a horrific bus accident that nearly killed her. She sang it at the 1991 American Music Awards in her first public performance. It was a great moment.
It was a kind of movie ending. Humanity needs and deserves a move ending. No one is going to hand it to us. The cavalry is not coming, as Carl Sagan once pointed out. There may even be powerful forces standing in our way. We may the underdog, but I know with everything I am that we can make it so. That belief is what gets me up and going and writing and sharing ideas every day.
The stage is set. The spotlight is shining. It's time for us to take our place there.
